Joby Talbot Path of Miracles
Brett Weymark conductor
‘The ultimate message of this music and music generally: hope for humanity and love for this beautiful world in which we live.’ - Joby Talbot
Journey to the edge of the world in Joby Talbot’s stunning acapella pilgrimage; a contemporary classic. Setting the words of English poet Robert Dickinson and multilingual historical and sacred documents, the four movements of Path of Miracles follow the great pilgrim trail of Camino de Santiago. The hardships and ecstasies of travel are brought to life in a spine-tingling choral tour de force. From the optimism of setting out, the agonies of exhaustion and despair to the final release at the very end of Europe – the known world – this is, of course, as much a pilgrimage of the soul as of the body. Path of Miracles was composed for the virtuosic choir, Tenebrae and premiered in the weeks after the July 2005 bombing in London, and at the time was a healing balm to a shattered city. It retains this power to spread peace and light among listeners everywhere.
Running time: 1 hour. There will be no interval.
